How Can My Crown Be Lengthened?

Posted .

Crown lengthening in Medford, Oregon, is a beneficial treatment that can give you the improved oral health and smile appearance that you deserve.  This treatment is generally needed when your gums have grown excessively and have covered the majority of the tooth’s surface. If you’re expecting to fix your smile with a crown lengthening treatment, our ADC Dental & Denture Clinic Inc. team is happy to help you prepare for your appointment! When you come in to meet with Dr. Teresa Eplett, you can expect the following steps:

Step 1: First, your dentist will numb your mouth with a local anesthetic. This will help prevent pain and discomfort during the treatment.

Step 2: Your dentist will then cut the gums and pull them away from the tooth. This will expose the tooth and surrounding bone.

Step 3: Then, he will remove the proper amount of gum tissue from your mouth and sometimes remove bone from the roots of the teeth if necessary. The bone will be removed using a combination of hand and rotary instruments.

Step 4: Once enough of the tooth has been exposed, your dentist will deeply irrigate the area with sterile salt water.

Step 5: Your dentist will then stitch your gums together after the area is cleaned. If needed, your dentist will cover the surgical site with a dressing called intraoral.
