You’ve likely heard the time often, but many people are unsure of what exactly a dental bridge is. What does it do? Why would you need one?
Those are just a couple of the questions we’ll address in this piece.
What are bridges?
Bridges are simply a dental appliance used to replace missing teeth. They can be used to replace one or more teeth that have escaped, although if you have quite a few missing teeth, Dr. Teresa Eplett may recommend a different tooth restoration option.
How do they work?
Bridges are pretty simple both in how they’re applied and how they function alongside the rest of your teeth.
On either side of the space of your missing tooth – or teeth – crowns are placed on the teeth. If your teeth are healthy enough, it’s likely you won’t need any additional therapy – like a root canal – in order for your teeth to hold the crowns.
Once the crowns are in place, then the fake tooth is inserted into the gap and attached to the crowns in order to ensure it stays in place.
